ARTIST PROFILE
Lauren Hill
Since I was young, the strongest memories of mine revolve around the creative world. With companies like Disney taking a large role in my life. With just one click the magic of it all transformed my life. The world created from a cartoon mouse truly inspires me to create. I love the progression of the art styles and the making of the movies are astonishing. How you are swept into the Disney universe, inspiring me greatly in my artistic journey. Core memories of mine are all involved with imagination and creativity from simply drawing, learning guitar, performing and dance showcases and to creating my own movies. Also playing with my neighbours and creating an art shows for people to come see, in our small little street. We’d spend hours creating all this work creating advertisement flyers posting it in our neighbours’ doors. As well as playing roleplay creating these worlds acting them out. We would act out different shows that were big around the time such as Merlin, Robin Hood and especially Doctor who. Our imaginations grew greatly from these experiences.
At nine I went to the Disney World’s Hollywood studios, in the park there was The Magic of Disney Animation attraction within the park. People in the park could receive art tips from actual Disney animators. There I met a lady who was doing some artwork, she was drawing The Little Mermaid, my favourite of the princesses. My dad asked if I could watch her draw and told her how much art interested me. The lady then gave me some special drawing pencils to draw with. Sadly, the attraction closed in 2015. But whilst it was open till I was twelve each time I would visit this quiet area just to see the magic behind the screen.
Art in school all felt to tame; there wasn’t enough expression or freedom. It was all very directed at what you drew and how you did it, not for quality. I studied art & design as a GCSE, in year ten i didn’t get on with my teacher; she was always so directional, and you had to have a reason for a drawing. Not just because you wanted to draw. In the first term of year eleven when we did our second project, we were given so much freedom on who we research and what artwork we did. Starting year eleven failing; to two weeks later exceeding all my targets. I loved it and was the best period for my artwork getting a seven overall.
This then gave me the platform to move onto my course now, Animation & Interactive media. Exceeding my expectations completely, now entering Digital world. My current course covers a variety of areas in this field. From development on paper to producing a digital outcome. This course has strongly encouraged creativity in my life in all aspects. During this time, I learned the Adobe software’s which included Photoshop, After Effects, Animate, and Cinema 4D. We have been given different briefs and where we had to come up with a final animation to these briefs which varied from motion comics, stop motion and any other 2D Animation techniques. In the second year it is more or less the same project just advancing onto 3D animation software such as Cinema 4D, doing this I learned 3D modelling is very technical and it is not just based around art.
I desire to do this pathway into the creative industry as it’s what my passion is. Anything can be made out of the unknown the possibilities are endless.
